One of the most common complaints I hear about GOAYB (Get Opinions About Your Board) is the ageless "why doesn't anyone ever rate my forum?" The first thing I say in response is "have you rated anyone's board yourself?" You see GOAYB is a board with a very basic concept. You create a thread for your forum asking for suggestions and wait in hopes that someone will come and give you a rate which will really help you improve your board. You wait and wait and wait then four hours later you bump your thread back to the top of page one. This process repeats itself over and over and over and becomes an endless cycle. You can do this day in and day out as much as you want. There is no rule stating that you have to rate other forums. But what exactly is the secret to getting people to rate your forum? It's quite simple really: get out and rate others yourself. Imagine if everyone who regularly posted their forum to be rated in GOAYB rated just ten different boards a day. If everyone did this then we wouldn't need to complain about not receiving rates would we? Now, there needs to be a clear understanding. Don't expect everyone you rate to rate you in return. You may rate ten boards a day for a week straight and not receive one rate yourself. The secret is consistency. You have to rate a lot and often. It's not something you can do for two or three days or even a week and give up on. It takes time but eventually people will start rating your forum if you are rating theirs. If everyone simply came to GOAYB posted their board to get rated and just came back to bump every four hours there would be no purpose for this board. The idea is members helping other members by offering suggestions to one another. So when you find yourself wondering why you're not getting rates ask yourself how many boards you've rated. It's a proven method which works. I've learned it myself through experience. GOAYB, like life in general, is a two way street. You get out of it only what you put in yourself. It's as simple as that. Now get out there and rate some forums!
